Survival - and so it continues

Posted on Mon Feb 8th, 2021 @ 8:22pm by Lieutenant Aurora Vali & Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen & Lieutenant Dean House & Lieutenant Bonnie "Bon-Bon" Durnell & Chief Petty Officer Ronson Mitchell

Mission: The Jungle
Location: Jungle

Rhenora looked at the scene before her - Dean was patching up Aurora who Savar had knocked out her her order. Ronson was hovering trying to assist where he could. The Captain considered her own situation - she couldn't walk, she could barely think and any attempts at effort were rewarded with periods of unconsciousness. Charmlng. Savar had mentioned that they saw Dr Wilson at the top of the cliff - if they could find the medical officer - she may be able to help. As Dean finished up with Aurora, Rhenora beaconed him over.

"You need to find Dr Wilson, you're the best person for the task"

Dean double checked before leaving Savar's wife in his hands. Moving over to Rhenora. "Easier said than done. I don't know what direction they are."

Rhenora looked around, spying some disrupted foliage. She checked further and saw what resembles a boot print.

"That might help* she commented, indicating the bootprint. It looked to be Starfleet issue.

A shake of his head was given, "Should have spotted that. I would say it would. I'm off then." Double checking himself before heading that way.

"Be careful - stay safe" Rhenora knew that Dean was more than capable of looking after himself and would be adept at tracking the bootprints now that they had found some.

~ Sometime later ~

Aurora awoke feeling rested but sore. She opened her eyes and offered Savar a smile. “How did it go? Am I all stitched together?”

"Your wound has been dealt with Aurora. You should be feeling better even if you are sore. The key is to not overdo any movement and to rest whenever possible." Savar answered.

“Well I don’t plan on ruining all the hard work Lieutenant House put into fixing me.” Aurora grinned. “How’s the Captain?”

Savar made no comment on Lt. House or his 'hard' work. Instead he answered Aurora's question about the Captain. "She is resting fairly comfortably though finding Dr. Wilson would certainly help matters."

“How long have I been asleep?” She slowly moved to sit up, sucking in a breath as it made her side sting.

"Three hours and thirty four minutes." Savar answered. "Aurora, please, no sudden or quick movements." He reminded her.

“I was ... just trying to sit up a little” She offered an apologetic smile.

"And you are able to just slowly." Savar replied.

“I’m sorry about what I said earlier, about leaving me behind” She offered an apologetic gaze. “I just don’t want to slow anyone down, I don’t want to risk anyone’s lives.”

"It was an inappropriate response Aurora." Savar answered his wife. "You are important and we leave no one behind."

Rhenora roused , looking around and gauging what was going on. It looked like they were in a cave, Savar and Aurora were conversing quietly, with Ronson fussing aruond with a fire that was being coaxed into something workable at the entrance.

"Savar" She said with as much strength as she could muster, unable to rise on her own.

He quickly moved to her side and knelt beside her. "Captain." He acknowledged.

She grasped his hand, drawing strength from his presence. " How is Aurora?" She asked, concern creasing her brow. Savar and Ronson seemed relatively unscathed so far.

His fingers came up to encircle hers."Her wound has been closed. However like yourself it is sore and will remain so for the foreseeable future. She needs to rest just as you do Captain."

" I'm not going anywhere, even if I wanted to" Rhenora lamented, thankful they had found shelter in the last few hours. Last thing she remembered was the cliff face and Lt House stitching up Aurora's wound. " You need to win this 'game'

"We can discuss that later Captain. Right now you and Aurora need to rest and rebuild your strength." Savar replied resolutely.

" Lt House?" Rhenora replied, relaxing a little against the sandy floor. She had full faith that her XO had everything under control.

"Gone, searching for Dr. Wilson and whomever was with her." Savar answered.

" I saw Remal... or was I hallucinating? I don't know whats real and what's not anymore" The Captain admitted sadly, her body shivering again.

"You were not hallucinating Captain. Your husband was seen with Dr. Wilson. I am real as is Mr. Mitchel and Aurora. Hold on to that Captain." Savar said as he brought over some large leafy frons to place over Rhenora, "These should help you to retain your body heat." He told her.

"There's been some pretty wild rides" Rhenora admitted as her teeth chattered, her body trying to kill the infection by increasing her body temperature. Her tone changed " I don't want to die on this rock"

"YOU are not going to die here Captain, none of us are." Savar answered with conviction. "You must hold on to that and believe it."

" You're not the one who's leg is trying to fall off" She snorted, still enormously grate for his presence and his leadership.

He looked at her, silent for a handful of seconds before finally speaking. "You surprise me Captain. I was not of the opinion that a scratch was equal to your leg falling off. Furthermore, I did not think it was enough for you to delve into self pity."

" You're right, I hate it when you're right" the Captain snorted, realising she had indeed been wallowing. "Sorry, you don't need to deal with that at the moment."

Savar nodded, satisfied the Captain would not lapse back into self pity. Her ego had been pricked. "Would you like something to eat? We have ample meat and water."

" Yes please, help me sit up" Rhenora replied, trying to lever herself upright and not having the energy.

Savar did as Rhenora asked and gently manoeuvred her into a sitting position. "Are you comfortable Captain?"

" Somewhat" Kaylen admitted, breathing as though she had run a marathon just by the effort of sitting up. "What's for dinner?"

"Roasted boar, by our talented cook Mr. Mitchel." Savar replied, paying the yeoman a compliment.

"Not bad" she replied, taking her time to chew the meat. She needed energy in whatever form she could get.

"How are you Aurora" she asked the half Vulcan. The Bajoran rested her weight against the side of the cave, unable to support it on her own.

Aurora looked towards Rhenora and offered a smile. “I’m pretty sore but that’s to be expected, otherwise I’m fine thank you Captain.” She looked towards Savar. “Would you mind passing me some of that meat please?”

"Certainly Aurora." Savar answered as he took a slice of meat and placed it on a leaf, "Here you are Aurora."

“Thank you” Aurora smiled warmly before tucking into the meat, grateful even if it was a limited supply for now. “I was thinking maybe you could help me with suppressing my emotions. I’ve not had to do it in a long time, I’m out of practice. If I can’t feel the pain then it should make moving from here a lot easier.”

"I can do that Aurora if that is what you wish though I do not know if is wise at this present time with your injury. Suppressing your emotions could leave you unaware of any complications from your injury." Savar answered his wife.

Aurora nodded. “As ever my husband, your logic is faultless” She nodded in agreement. “Then I guess that option is out, I’ll try and manage without but I don’t want to put anyone else at risk looking after me.”

"You honor me Aurora." Savar replied. "May I suggest self meditation? It will allow you to be aware of your injury but lessen the pain."

Aurora nodded. “I’ll try but meditation was never a strong point of mine, the Betazoid half of me is easily distracted.” She grinned and chewed some more of her meat.

"Distraction also works well in cases like this. Find something to occupy your mind to take it off your injury Aurora." Savar suggested.

Aurora nodded. “I’ll do my best.”

"No doubt you will Aurora. You can accomplish anything you set your mind to. I know how determined you can be." Savar remarked.

Aurora nodded and smiled. “Then I will make you proud of me.”

"Aurora, I am always proud of you." Savar said honestly.

Over against the wall Rhenora's head was starting to get heavy - a wave of fatigue rolled over her making it difficult to concentrated.

"Tired" she managed, her body fighting to heal itself.

"Rest Captain, sleep. We will be here when you awaken." Savar assured her.

Rhenora nodded and closed her eyes, giving in to the insatiable urge to sleep.

“What are we going to do?” Aurora looked at her husband concernedly. “We can’t leave Rhenora here alone in her condition.”

"We will win this game take down Haldeman and return to the ship.." Savar answered firmly. He looked at Rhenora, "No, we cannot and we will not Savar told her. "I am hopeful Lt. House will find Dr. Wilson quickly and return where she may be able to do more for the Captain's condition."

Aurora nodded. “Sit with me while we wait?”

"But of course Aurora." Savar answered as he moved and sat down beside her. "You must remain positive Aurora. Giving in to negative thoughts insures failure."

“I won’t give in, that I promise you” Aurora offered a smile. “I’m just glad to be with you. I guess all we can do is wait until the others get back.”

"I know you will not Aurora. We are stronger together than apart. " Savar replied. "Hopefully Lt. House will have found Dr. Wilson and be headed back.'
