The Needs of the .......

Mission:
The Jungle
Location: Cave on Unnamed Planet
Savar had been sitting with Aurora, going over and through different scenarios in dealing with Rhenora's wound and 'winning' this game and saving the Liberty crew. His thought process was made harder by his stubborn refusal to leave the Captain behind.
He looked up as Remal approached and stopped in front of him, "Yes, Mr. Kajun, something you wish to discuss?"
He gave a quick look at Aurora then back to Savar, "Actually I wanted to check to see how your young bride is faring." He knelt down until he was eye to eye with the two of them. "And I wanted to thank you." He led in.
Savar met his gaze, "Then I suggest you ask Aurora and find out the answer for yourself in addition I am at a loss over what you wish to thank me for Mr. Kajun."
Aurora gave her husband a smile. “I would imagine it’s for looking after the Captain.” She looked to Remal, “I’m doing okay, pretty sore but there isn’t much we can do about that. I just wish I could have done more for Rhenora, I did what I could for her wound but infection still set in.”
He never understood why when Vulcans spoke their voices always gave off such a passive aggressive vibe despite having no real emotions. "I truly appreciate that you tried. Given our current situation and what we have at our disposal your care for Rhen is appreciated." He said to Aurora. Then he turned back to Savar. "And I thank you for doing your duty. Ronson tells me you carried her up that cliff face, most impressive."
"I believe the correct response is you are welcome though I only did what the Captain would have done if our roles had been reversed." Savar answered. "The Captain in addition to being my commanding officer is my friend. I could not nor would I abandon her. As countryman of mine once said, the needs of the one or the few outweigh the needs of the many." He looked at Remal, "I believe this current situation proves that."
"Perhaps. But correct me if I'm wrong when I say that your roles have currently been reversed. And while she is now, not fit for duty, you are in charge. And while you are in charge, you are responsible for the safety and well-being of the crew under your command." He looked down at the cave floor and then back up at Savar, "Remind me again what the rules and the dire outcome are of this game we've been forced to play? And then tell me which need is the greatest at this given moment." He was attempting to force a logical outcome that would get them off this rock. In his mind, the only path was for Savar and the others to move on without Rhenora.
Aurora looked between the two of them, if she was interpreting the situation correctly Remal was suggesting a course of action that Savar wasn’t going to like.
Savar was stoic. "Mr. Kajun, there is no need for me to remind you of that which you know so well. Yes, our roles have been reversed and no I will not shrink from my duty to protect this crew and get them all to safety, that includes getting the Captain to safety. The rules are simple if we recover the holy idol and get to the finish line before the time expires we win the contest and the crew goes free."
"And if we fail this contest or run out of time? What then? Do you propose to accept that we live out the rest of our days, here?" He gave a grand gesture to the cave around them. "And you? Do you accept the responsibility that will befall you should we fail and your crew begin to lose their life to this, this game?" It was rhetorical and he knew it, though he suspected Savar would find the answers to those questions within himself one way or another.
"Look," He was more solemn now, "Sarah says it will be days before Rhenora breaks from this cave. She's strong, a fighter. All I am suggesting is that you and Dean continue to fight for the many, as you so put it, while I stay here and fight for the one. As is my duty. From one husband to another, I'm sure you understand devotion as much as any man."
"If we lose this contest Mr. Kajun we will also lose our lives. As for my responsibility, I am all too well of what it is, and yes I accept it as any commanding officer would." Savar answered and then grew silent as Remal pressed his case. Finally, he answered, "Your argument is logical, I find no fault in it as one husband to another."
"Glad to hear it. I for one can't wait to get off this sweaty rock." He looked to Aurora, "Will you stay here under my protection, or" He looked to Savar. "Would she be safer with you?"
Aurora looked at Remal then at Savar. “I would like to go with you, but I don’t want to slow you down. It could cost us everything if I do.” She sighed. “If you want me to stay I’ll stay here with Remal and Rhenora.” She offered Remal a warm smile.
Savar looked at his wife and then to Remal, " We will be stronger with you Aurora on this quest to win this contest and save our crew."
“Alright” Aurora nodded. “But if I slow you down, then you leave me and go finish alright? We can’t afford to lose!”
Savar sidestepped Aurora's question. "We will not lose." He stated firmly.
Aurora didn’t press it she simply nodded. “Then let’s do it.” She looked at Savar. “Let’s win!”
"A sentiment I totally agree with Aurora." Savar replied.
Remal smiled as he stood and looked out of the cave, "It will be dark soon. Ronson and Sarah can stay with me and Rhen. As soon as she is well enough to travel we will head for the idol, just in case things go wrong." He looked down at Savar. Everything was riding on him and his small team. He was young, even for a Vulcan compared to Remal. But he had proven himself capable once before. And now he would have to once again. Remal turned to go back to Rhen's side, the place he belonged.
"Very good Mr. Kajun. I leave you on command. You will find Mr. Mitchel more than capable to assist you. Keep the Captain and the others safe." Savar replied as he turned to speak to Aurora. "Get what you will need to make this trip Aurora."
Aurora nodded and went to get to her feet before the discomfort in her side reminded her to do it slowly and gently. She didn’t have a lot anyway, Ronson was the one with the food rations. She stood doing her best to ignore her pain, “I’m about as ready as I’ll ever be.”
"Very good Aurora. Please see to getting some food for yourself and Lt. House." Savar answered as he prepared to leave.
Ronson came in from the fire pit. "I've packed some boar and water. It's not much, but it's the best that I can do, sir."
"Thank you Mr. Mitchel. Your assistance has been invaluable in taking care of the Captain, assisting me in killing of the boar. Along with food preparation. As well as your assistance in other areas. I know you will continue to assist Mr. Kajun and Dr. Wilson in every way you can."
"You have my word Commander" Ronson nodded sagely as he considered what this planet had thrown at them so far.
"Mr. Mitchel, I have no doubt you will continue to perform in the same distinguished manner that you have displayed so far," Savar replied to the yeoman.
"Aurora, get what we need so we may begin." Savar told his wife.
“Already done” Aurora offered a smile. “I’m as ready as I’m going to be.”
"Very good Aurora. Oh just one more thing. "Mr. Mitchel, I will exchange my knife for the scimitar you have. It is more effective weapon in both moving through the jungle and dealing with opponents." Savar explained.
"Of course Commander" Ronson scarpered and retrieved the blade, offering it hilt first to the ships XO. He would do anything to get off this rock and back to his tiny little office. Although somehow he mused that that tiny little office might not be enough any more.
"Thank you Mr. Mitchel." Savar replied accepting the scimitar and handing his knife to the yeoman. "Keep them safe." He said in parting as he turned to Aurora. "Let us go Aurora." With that they started on their quest to save the crew.
