Mission:
New Horizons
Location: Starbase 84 / USS Liberty dock
Timeline: Current-ish
[ Temp Medical, USS Liberty Dock ]
Kell hung her head, and gently pinched the bridge of her nose.
She watched the crew manifest she'd just been reviewing freeze and change to 'locked'... then the ping of yet another crew change, the manifest arriving for her review.
"AAAHHHHH!" She yelled, wondering just how soundproof these aux labs were since they had gutted several areas on the ship and relegated many of the day-to-day operations dockside. This refit was taking forever!
Bleeker peeked through her door and she knew it wasn't anywhere near as soundproof as she'd hoped, the knocking around of activities outside having already answered her self-inflicted question.
"You called Doc?"
Kell gave him her patented, well-tuned gaze of reproachful glare, watching him wilt and melt to the floor.
When that didn't actually happen, having his own well-tuned antidote, she let it rest with a frown as she ran her hand through her hair, knowing that it was beyond messed up by this point in the day.
"No, my young Bleeker, I did NOT summon thee."
Bleeker stepped in with a gleeful huff. "I'm 63, that would not be considered young for my race I'll have you know. I am a well-stocked treasure trove of experience and skill!"
Kell blew out a breath. "But a comedian you are not." She flipped the PADD to the side and leaned back, stretching.
"Lemme guess, more crew changes?"
She nodded, rolling her head around. "How do they expect me to make a thorough review when they change things before I've even completed the last ones they sent? Huh?"
She reached down for one of the PADDs... "This one was this morning, this one," grabbing up another, "yesterday. And now I was about to file my observations when they lock those files and give me another change. I hate dock repairs!!! It provides way too much time to shuffle people around."
Tossing them off to the side again, she paused to consider her words. "And on top of that, the JAG still wants to 'assist us'," she makes quotes with her curved fingers, "in preparing our last mission statements. Assist us my barnacle! We stated what we stated! We were there, not them! One more suggestion... I'm telling you, one more suggestion and I'm..."
She had to put the brakes on. Bleeker was a trusted colleague but she didn't want him to have to testify to anything he would hopefully find distasteful against the manner in which she performed her duties, especially in the office.
"You're enjoying this, aren't you?" She accused the older man, waggling a finger at him.
To his credit, the smirk was barely evident, but they had worked together long enough to see subtle tell-tales. He adopted a look of abject innocence. "I'm sure I don't know what you mean Chief. You have always conducted yourself with grace and..."
He almost finished, but just didn't quite make it. He managed to get it under control quickly not bothering to cover over the guffaw that broke in.
The rest of the day they both reviewed personnel, currently active, transferring out with the required notes to their new assignments, and, once more, a list of incoming personnel that needed reviews, exams, follow-ups, and more.
"Hey, is this one right? A Lanthanite? I've never met one." Bleeker pointed out a new LT on the list. "Ops."
Kell ran down the list of posts, "Been in the pipeline a long time to just to be an L-T... oh, well then. The Captain's gonna love this one."
Kell waved Bleeker out to see to shift change while she looked over the maintenance accomplished in her department and projections for her to get back into place. The vibration of this place just wasn't the same as the ship...
