CD - Ass Kicking Pt 2

Posted on Thu Oct 1st, 2020 @ 3:43am by Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen

Mission: Diplomatic Masquerade
Location: Gym

Rhenora attempted to roll as the floor came towards her at a rapid rate of knots, tucking her chin and shoulders and letting the momentum from the throw carry her through a roll and back onto her feet. For a moment she was out of his range she used those scant seconds to recover both mentally and physcially. The respite would not last long.

Savar was relentless, he showed no signs of being tired or out of breath as he came forward to confront her once again. He shifted his shoulders and ducked his head low.. He threw a left forearm at her head and swept his right leg under hers, throwing her again off balance.

The Captain tried to duck - the instinct of protecting her head won out against protecting her legs. His shins collected hers and sent her crashing to the ground on the mats. She refused to give in, righting herself and going on the offensive for a change.

Savar was impressed with the Captain’s will and spirit as she came toward him. He gave no sign of what he was going to do. He waited for the Captain to make the first move in their little mental chess match.

She watched him watching her, taking in the features. The measured gaze, the balanced weight, the slight tension in the muscles. There was no obvious weakness that she could exploit, no lag time, no distraction she could use to her advantage. She was outsized, out maneuvered and outsmarted. However when one had little options, they tried something outside of the box.

She stepped backward, elongating the space between them and moved several steps to the right, as much as she knew he would follow her moves - it was time to be unpredictable.

Savar pivoted but did not actually move. Rather he just changed his stance as he kept his eyes on the Captain, trying to discern what she was up to. Clearly relying on instinct worked better for her.

She struck hard and fast, relying on pure instinct and ignoring the screaming in her lungs and limbs. Her legs burned with the excursion and there were more than a few bruises that would show themselves the next morning. Keeping her head down her forearm connected with something but she kept moving.

The Captain’s move caught Savar across his chest. Her momentum drove him backwards. His move was purely defensive. He reached out and got hold of her shoulders and as he did he dropped down , allowing himself to lift the Captain up as he slid under her and was now behind her.

She used the momentum to pivot on the ball of her foot, facing him and putting him back on the defensive. The minor victory of not being dropped ceremoniously on her ass buoyed her spirits and boosted her tenacity. Without giving him time to rebalance she went on the offensive again, pushing her body to the limits of what it was capable of.

Savar blocked the blows but it was clear a fire had been lit under the Captain.. He knew several moves that if this was real he would use but this was his Captain so he refrained . As the Captain moved into him. He quickly lowered his shoulder and ‘rolled’ behind her. That done he brought his hands up and caught hers in a full nelson immobilizing her arms and head.

“Damnit” She hissed as she froze, breathing heavily with the effort of the last few rounds. Her options were limited, very limited, legs and feet were about it. A heel to the groin would be a low maneuver, but in an open combat perfectly acceptable. Instead she drove a heel into his knee, trying to throw his balance and thus release his hold.

Her plan worked partially. It did throw Savar’s balance off but he did not release his hold on her as they both fell to the mat. The Captain was still trapped in his hold.

The air was forced from her lungs as they landed, his weight pinning her effectively to the ground. Right at this moment she didn’t care. Her body burned and her cardiovascular system was writing letters of abuse to her mind.

Savar looked at her. “Do you yield Captain?” He asked softly, evenly as if he was ordering lunch.

Rhenora squeaked as she struggled to regain her breath.” Yield!”

He released his hold and was on his feet in an instant in one fluid motion. He reached a hand out to help Rhenora up.

“ Owww… that’s gonna bruise” The Captain grumbled, wishing for the fluidity and grace she used to take for granted.

“You performed much better Captain when you acted on instinct.” Savar told her. “In a few more classes, your timing and execution will be sufficient should you encounter bigger opponents.” Savar informed her.

“ Well I’m glad you saw some kind of hope in there somewhere” She retorted, catching her breath after the latest scuffle.

“Indeed I did. Though sitting behind a desk these past five years did not help your conditioning or your reflexes.” Savar noted.

“ You got that right” Kaylen snapped as her breathing finally slowed to something less than a pant.

“ I meant no insult Captain. In fact, your moves at the end of our match were much improved. They had strength and coordination to them. You used combinations. Not just one move, wait then try another.” Savar pointed out.

“ Thanks… I think” Rhenora finally stood up straight, allowing the sweet air to fill her lungs fully “ It’s been a quite a while since I’ve done anything like that - and it shows. Thank you”

"You are welcome Captain. My sole intent is to help you improve your skills in case you should ever need them." Savar answered evenly and honestly.

"Given my track record, we can and very much will need them" The Captain admitted with more sarcasm than was intended. It felt as though she were at the cross roads of her life. Longing for what she had but uncertain of the future and if she would be able to handle whatever the universe threw at her.

"Captain if that is indeed so, then much more is required to improve your skills so you may more than adequately defend yourself." Savar replied with conviction.

"I fear very much you may be right, I don't envy your task at hand" She propped her hands on her hips and took a sip from her water bottle, wondering if she could drop him unawares then promptly deciding against the idea. He was a Vulcan, he was never unawares.

"It is a task that must be under taken. I would be remiss in my duties as XO if I did not make sure you were properly able to defend yourself from attack." Savar countered.

" I know you are more than up to the task - it's my own ability I'm questioning at the moment" She admitted with a downcast eye.

"Captain unless I am wrong and I do not believe I am. You are not one to engage in self pity. So this is out of character for you and one I will put down as an aberration due to your recent performance in unarmed combat. I do not expect to see it again." Savar intoned firmly.

Well that was the verbal slap to the face she hadn't seen coming. She had expected Savar to take a different approach but then again - he was a counsellor - he knew what would get the most effective results. She opened and closed her mouth several times before any kind of sound came out, shocked as she was.

"I was not expecting that" she admitted.

He nodded, "I apologize if my reply was not what you anticipated Captain. I believe in keeping one on ones toes both physically and mentally. However I can mend my replies to suit you if you desire."

" Don't you dare, you're here to tell me what I need to hear, not want I want to here cos my ego is fragile" There was an honesty in her words that shocked even herself.

"I am gratified to hear that Captain. Though in all honesty, I am not very good at hand holding or massaging fragile egos." Saver admitted.

" Then I believe you are uniquely suited to your task - I wish you every success and pray that you come out the other side with your sanity intact" There was the hint of a smile as she turned and grabbed her towel, mopping the ample sweat from her face and neck.

"Thank you Captain and I you in surviving the coming classes in one piece." Savar retorted.

" Shall I alert sickbay in advance?" Kaylen retorted as her body finally started to recover from her workout. She was getting sore already - tomorrow was going to be brutal.

"That is totally up to you Captain. Do you see yourself needing their services?" Savar questioned.

"Depend how hard you kick my ass from one side of the gym to the other I guess. I have a feeling your training is only going to get more...robust from this point" The Bajoran admitted, throwing the towel over her shoulder.

"I believe I can safely promise you without the fear of contradiction robust and thorough training with each class." Savar replied as he picked up his own towel and placed it around his neck.

"Bummer, then I need to add more cardio and strength training to keep up with it, Pennies and Pounds as they say" She admitted more to herself than to her trainer. She was definitely going to be sore over the next few weeks.
