Captains Catchup

Posted on Wed Jan 20th, 2021 @ 5:25am by Captain Rhenora Kaylen & Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen

Mission: Healing of Minds
Location: Bridge

The next morning Rhenora awoke feeling mostly refreshed. A good 10 hours of sleep after a decent meal could work wonders. The Liberty was in space - heading who knows where at the moment. She'd not had the time to catch up on reports since arriving back and so decided to receive one first hand.

"Computer - Locate Acting Captain Savar"

"Acting Captain Savar is currently on the bridge." The computer replied in it's typical monotone.

Rhenora smiled to herself and headed for the bridge, eager to catch up on the last week's news as well as finding out just where they were heading.

Arriving at the bridge the doors to the turbolift opened, revealing a happy and functioning bridge crew under the calm and capable eye of Savar.

"Good Morning.. or is it afternoon" She greeted and headed down to the XO's chair - dropping into the chair with a comfortable ease.

Savar turned in the center seat as Rhenora addressed him and the bridge crew. "It is 1330 hours, so good afternoon Captain. I trust you slept well." Savar greeted her even as she made her way to the XO's chair and dropped into it.

" Better than I have in the last week, there is much to be said about the accomodations made available to us" She snorted as she crossed her legs casually, letting Savar remain in the Captains chair. " So how was your first week in the big chair?" She asked.

" A comfortable bed will usually produce that result." Savar replied and then paused as he thought on the question Rhenora had posed. "It was...busy and productive." He finally answered.

Rhenora surveyed the bridge crew who were working away on whatever tasks were going on at the moment.

"I'll be honest I haven't read any of the reports from the last week. Where are we off to?" She asked, watching the stars stream lazily by. They didn't seem to be in a hurry by any means so whatever the matter was it wasn't urgent.

"We are currently enroute to a Bajoran colony planet Captain. We received a distress call and found a Bajoran vessel whose orbit was decaying. We were able to rescue all aboard the ship but were unable to save the ship. Upon speaking with the captain of the doomed ship, I was told they were religious outcasts and this was to be the start of their colony. I made the command decision to resupply the colonists with what they need . We will deposit the colonists and the supplies and leave them to their world." He paused and looked over to Rhenora. "I realize I may have overstepped my authority in giving the colonists supplies. However it was the logical and right decision to make."

"Wow, you have been busy." The Captain commented, pulling up the recent reports and running her eyes over the particulars. Savar had made all the right calls.

" And no - you most definitely did not overstep your bounds. Had those people been returned to Bajor they would have once again been outcasts - and that is not something I would wish on anyone" She commented sagely. Her people were lovely - if you followed their belief structure. Something she had struggled with.

" I am gratified to know you support my decision Captain." Savar commented. "Now, what of your time on the surface? Did you and Remal find the answers you sought while on Bajor?"

" Sort of" Rhenora replied, reflecting on her time away from the Liberty. " There were a number of 'lessons' inflicted by the Brotherhood. They seemed intent on teaching about faith, patience and trust." She started, sipping the thermos of coffee that Ronson had pressed into her hand a few moments ago.

"Interesting. I was and am not of the opinion you needed lessons in any of those categories Captain. In any event I hope your trip was beneficial and it calmed your restlessness." Savar replied.

" I'm not sure I would call it beneficial, I think it created more questions than answered. We had an interesting conversation with the Prophets though, not that I trust what they have to say" She admitted casually, still not sure how she felt about the whole encounter they had had.

"Perhaps that is the lesson about trust captain. To not accept something just because it is said by someone in authority. To seek your own answers and find your own path." Savar proposed.

"That's the philosphy I would like to follow. However the beings that like to meddle with the Bajoran people think otherwise. The apparently have selected Remal and myself to be the next Emisarys. How much trust I put in that statement even I have yet to determine. Suffice it to say - I'm not leaving the bridge of this Starship anytime soon" The Captain said firmly " Not that I don't trust your leadership implicitly" She added quickly.

" The next Emissaries? Interesting." Savar replied but said nothing more on it and instead said, "Captain, there is no reason to explain or apologize. Your first and best destiny is that of a Starship Captain. Anything else is a waste of talent and illogical."

"My thoughts exactly" The Bajoan quipped, sipping her coffee and sitting back comfortably in the chair. " I belong here, until i choose to retire and then all bets are off. But for now - here. Now what's our ETA to this new colony?" She changed the topic slightly.

"Your judgment is impeccable as always Captain." Savar replied and then answered her question. "At our current speed we will arrive at the colony in 53 minutes."

" Fabulous - I'll let you tidy up the loose ends before we move out of this system. There's some mapping and stellar cartography work that I'd like to get done until Starfleet gives us a new mission" Rhenora sipped her coffee and looked at the viewscreen, quite content to let Savar keep running things.

"As you wish Captain. a personal observation if you will. You are quite content and relaxed to let me continue to 'tidy' up loose ends. In fact, I would say you are enjoying yourself immensely."

" Who me? Never" She laughed, it felt good to be bantering with Savar again. She missed his dry but witty personality. They worked well together. "I've got a week's worth of reports to catch up."

He arched an eyebrow at her reply but withheld any comment. "Not so Captain. All reports have been completed and sent to Command. All you need to is sit back and read them and drink the coffee Mr. Mitchell brings to you."

"Really? I will have to leave you in charge more often" she smiled, sipping said coffee from the thermos Ronson had supplied earlier.

Not to be outdone, Savar nodded and replied, "Indeed Captain. It would increase the efficiency in the time it takes for reports to be completed and sent off."

" Now now Savar, that's a low blow. My reports are generally done.. close to time. Just ask Ronson. Speaking of which - how did you go with him?" She asked, her ego having been taken down a peg, damn him for being right about reports.

"I apologize Captain, I meant no disrespect. I was only speaking from the point of efficiency. Nothing more. You are an outstanding Starship Captain." Savar replied. "As for Mr. Mitchell, he was ever efficient and up to ever task I had for him."

" No apology necessary Savar, you call it as you see it - which is why I like you. Is this the planet where the Bajoran colony is going to be?" She turned her attention to the viewscreen where a green planet was coming into view.

"Your understanding is gratifying Captain and I do apologize if I hurt your feelings. I assure you that was not my intention. I like you as well Captain." Savar said as he turned to look at the viewscreen. "Yes Captain. This is the new home of the colonists."

"I'm sure they're eager to resume their new lives." Rhenora mused, regarding the planet the Liberty was drawing closer to " I can understand how they would want to start over and not return to Bajor. Are the stores ready?"

"They most definitely are. Stores are ready Captain. I also have a case of older phasers and phaser rifles to be sent down after the colonists have beamed down to the planet. To help in their hunting and protection from wildlife." Savar answered.

"I'm sure they would appreciate that Commander. The first few weeks and months on a new planet are often the hardest. At least they'll have a few Starfleet shelters, replacement foodstuffs and seeds to keep them going, and now hunting equipment. It'll be a vast improvement on what I can only assumed they had scrounged together as outcasts." Rhenora commented, watching the viewscreen change as the ship descended into a standard orbit. It felt good to be back in space, helping people, doing what Starfleet did best.

"Agreed Captain." Savar said rising from the center seat. "I have one final task. "Computer transfer all command codes to Captain Rhenora Kaylen, effective immediately."

"Command codes transferred to Captain Kaylen. USS Liberty is under her command." The computer announced.

"Welcome home Captain." Savar said as he stepped away from the center seat. "The crew awaits your orders."

She rose with a small smile, taking a small bow in his deference. "Why thank you Commander, it has been an honour to leave such a capable officer in charge." She stepped over to the command chair and sat down, feeling once again like she was back home.

"The honor is to serve." Savar replied solemnly as he moved to the XO's chair and sat down. Waiting Rhenora's orders. Everything was once again it their rightful places.

"Advise the colonists that we are ready to transport them and their replacement stores down to the planet. " Rhenora started, falling easily back into the swing of things.

"Captain Rojosh has provided co-ordinates Ma'am, adjusting transporters now" Ops advised "We have also requisitioned more medical supplies so they can complete their radiation treatment"

"Very good, transport when they are ready" Rhenora advised, watching the green planet from her chair. It looked so like Bajor, she could see the appeal of it. Soon they would be on their way and the life of the Liberty would continue as it always had.
