Mission: *CD*
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Current

{ON}

Allison had already been in Sickbay once since arriving onboard, her daughter Amanda had been in for her check over already along with the rest of the Manchester survivors but Allison had waited until now. She offered a smile as she approached Doctor Wilson. “Excuse me Doctor, I’m Allison Haldeman I came aboard with the survivors from the Manchester.

Sarah looked up from the genetic sequencing she was working on as the newcomber walked into sickbay. "Oh Hi, welcome aboard and all that" She smiled, gesturing Allison over towards one of the biobed. "I'm Sarah, what can I do for you?"

“My daughter insisted I come down for my check up” She offered a brief smile. “Actually I do need you to check something, I’m pregnant, around 8 weeks ... I think.” She frowned it was hard keeping track of time on the planet.

" Wow, ok that's not going to be in your old medical file" Wilson quipped as she patted the biobed beside her " You better lie down so I can get some scans, just to make sure everything's as it should be"

Allison nodded and hopped up onto the biobed, she lay down and made herself comfortable. “I’m suffering with chronic morning sickness, it’s more like all day sickness and zigs interfering with my duties. Anything you can do to help with that I’d appreciate.” She offered a smile. “This is my third child, we lost our son on the planet. None of my pregnancies have been easy, my son was born via, what some consider to be an old fashioned emergency Caesarian section. We were on shoreleave at the time.”

Sarah listened as she worked, checking hormone levels, foetal development as well as the regular things she would document during a physical. "You've tried ginger tea? I know several women who have sworn by it. If that doesn't work of course I can give you something to quell the nausea" Sarah smiled, trying to reassure Allison that everything was ok.

"So third pregnancy? Your readings are consistent with around 8 weeks. Baby looks a little on the smaller side but I'm sure that was due to the tough conditions on the planet." She continued, making a few notes as she went.

“Nutrition wasn’t high on the priority of those who kept us on the surface” Allison sighed. “We only had just enough to sustain us each day, we weren’t given much and what we did manage to grow wasn’t much when it had to feed so many mouths.”

"I can understand that. It's not the most ideal environment to be eating for two so to speak. Your body is doing remarkably well considering. Up your food intake over the next few weeks and we'll probably see baby come back to a better weight" Sarah advised as she indicated for Allison to sit up again. "Do you know if it's a boy or a girl? Or would you prefer a surprise?"

“I’d like to know” Allison paused. “In truth I’m hoping for a boy, our four year old son Alex was ... murdered, as a lesson to Tom. He could never be replaced but a boy would be special to me. Not that I’d be unhappy with a girl.”

"I can safely say you have a healthy little boy in there" Sarah smiled as she disappeared for a moment a returned with a hypo. "This will boost your hormone levels, hopefully it won't make your morning sickness worse"

Allison’s eyes lit up at the news She was having a boy. “A boy! I can’t wait to tell Tom!!” She offered Sarah a big smile. “Thank you so much!” She took a deep breath and calmed herself down. “I would appreciate something to help with the sickness, I tried everything when I was carrying Alex and I still ended up an in-patient in Sickbay.”

"Of course" Wilson disappeared again and returned with another hypo. "This is a long acting anti nausea medication, hopefully it will settle things down for you"

“Thank you” Allison smiled. “Am I alright to continue with my duties? I don’t want to leave Captain Kaylen a department member short.”

"Of course, let me know how the medication works for you, and I'm putting you on light duties for a while until we get your nutrition back where it should be." Sarah acknowledged.

Allison nodded. “Thank you, I'll let you know if the medication works alright. I can but hope it will.”

"Great, you're free to return to light duties, come back and see me if the medication doesn't work otherwise I'm putting you on weekly checkups just to make sure everything's going ok" Sarah advised as she put away her hypo and other tools.

“In that case all being well I’ll see you in a week” Allison smiled warmly. “Thank you for all your help.”

"You're more than welcome. Take it easy, see you then" Wilson smiled as Allison left sickbay and the next crewman due for a physical walked in. Back to it.
