Mission: The battle's not over
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Current

ON:

Ghost was not upset with the message she had received from Starfleet Command. As a matter of fact it gave her some relief. Knowing that a long time friend was taking the reins and moving her back to something she knew how to do better, suited her just fine. Fixing a cup of Spring tea, she sat and waited for Finchley to finally get there.

The doors to the Ready Room opened to reveal Finchley standing there shouting across the bridge to someone..."When you're done, tell Halcern there's no such rank as Amdiral, Admiral yes, Amdiral no. I'm sure HQ will wonder what kind of "Intelligence" show we're running!"

Walking into the Ready Room, he saw Ghost sat at her desk and said "Ghost, you wanted to see me?"

"Yes I do. What in the blazes were you yelling about anyhow? You gave me a headache Finchley," Ghost said softly, looking at her old friend. "Were you aware of what Starfleet just did? I mean, did you not get the new orders yet?" she added, still sitting with her tea in hand. Ghost knew about the orders, but wondered if he had seen them yet.

"Oh it was just the briefing memo Halcern wrote" Finchley answered "I read it over before it was sent and found a few typo's, including the fact it was being sent to 'Amdiral' Horn...I mean, really???"

He walked across to the replicator and ordered himself an apple tea, "Do you want anything?" he asked.

"No, but grab your tea and sit down my friend. I think you will need to be seated for this piece of news," Ghost said smiling.

Walking back to her he said "To answer your other question, no, I haven't had a chance to go through my messages yet, I've had my head stuck in the briefing PADD's and also reading up on the newly arrived crew members. I told Karadis that unless I was on fire and had to be put out, I wasn't to be disturbed. Want to catch me up on the new orders please Sir?"

"Well, since my injuries kept me from leading, Starfleet has been keeping a close eye on you. Apparently they like how you have taken the reins and have decided to make it permanent. So Captain Finchley Kerr, you are hereby officially the captain of the Liberty as of immediately and I will become your Executive officer with no reduction in our ranks!" Ghost said smiling at Finchley.

Finchley blinked a couple of times, trying to take in what Ghost had just told him. Finally, once his brain had stopped doing the Macarena, he spoke.

"That's an extraordinary decision by the Admiralty Ghost. Not that I'm unhappy that they've given me a Command, but that it should be our ship. How do you feel about this, are you ok with us basically swapping roles?"

"Of course! You have done what most people in your spot can not do......step up and take command of a ship. Now I actually am willing to share the ship with you as your XO. It will be interesting to see two captains command her. We always made a good team in the past and I have no doubt we will continue to be a team," Ghost said, finishing her tea.

"How do you mean 'share' the ship with me as XO?" Finchley asked, puzzled "Either I'm the Officer in charge of the ship or I'm not. There's never been a shared Command in the history of Starfleet or SFI as far as I know" he finished.

"Finchley, she is 'our' ship as you put it. You command and I stand with you. That is all I ask. Nothing less and nothing more. Let's not quarrel over things as command please. We are friends for too long for something like this to come between us. I will take orders from you unless I see they put you in harms way. That is my primary response and I know you will pull captain's prerogative on me too!", Ghost said seriously but with a chuckle.

"To be honest, it's nice to have someone else with CO experience in the Command Team" Finchley answered. He sat on the edge of the desk, taking a sip of his tea "Do you think we'll be able to get Admiral Horn to give us a lot of latitude in this investigation? I mean, yes, he's a stickler for rules, but then again, he knows we're both a little nuts" he laughed.

"Nuts? I thought we were the Dizzy Twins' as I heard him say mind wise. But, you are right with the Admiral. We need a good argument to get us the latitude we're gonna need. Ghost laughed suddenly....."You know he actually called us both, 'Crazy Loons' once..."Ghost said laughing as she looked at Finchley.

"Well, it's not without merit what he called us" Finchley laughed "but I'll have a word with him, to see what's what. If there's nothing else, shall we get the ball rolling on getting things changed?"

With that Finchley moved round the other side o the desk.
