Mission:
Trapped in Time
Location: Ready Room, USS Liberty
Timeline: Current.
Finchley tapped his COMM badge and said "All Senior Officers report to the Ready Room immediately for the mission briefing, Kerr out."
[Deck 7 - Sickbay, CMOs office]
Kell looked up from her desk as she exercised the empty drawer in and out. No one was there, of course, but the reflex was just as sharp. "At least you know where you're going this time," she told herself.
Once again checking her uniform Kell thought it timely that she hadn't had a chance to change into anything more lab-related and she should blend in with the rest of the staff nicely. A slight tug at the bottom and she rolled her head to ease any tension, then stepped smartly from the office.
On the way through Sickbay she nodded to the two techs she had just met upon returning to her office. Kell made a mental note to prioritize reviewing the personnel files asap and calling a meeting so she would be familiar with those she was now responsible for, and therefore further responsible for the rest of the crew on the ship through them... and for anyone even visiting she reminded herself.
'Later...' Kell thought. "Best be early than late," she muttered to herself as she turned into the corridor and made for the turbolift to the bridge, more than a little excited.
Sandy was not sure how Finchley was going to address her once she got into the briefing. Ghost was her call sign and since they knew each other for a long time, it would probably be her last name by which he would address her in front of the crew. Stepping from the lift, she walked into the ready room. "So Finchley, what have you found out so far? Any leads as to who tried to erase me?", Ghost said getting her Spring tea.
The meeting hadn't begun yet, so Finchley replied "I've been given some Intel Ghost, and I think you'll find it rather interesting. We had a maintenance crew in here the day before the explosion...one of them was a Cardassian...a contract engineer called Kellan R'nam. It seems he's gone to ground, no-one has seen him in two months."
"Why does that name sound familiar....hm. Oh well, I think it will jog my memory later. Cardassian huh......." Ghost said thinking.
Rick was just off of the Ready room, since he was on the Bridge. Unsure why that many people would be in called in there. Instead of perhaps the conference room. Either way, that was the location. He followed Sandy into the room just a step or two behind her. Stepping to the side so he wasn't in the way of others coming in.
Kell stepped out of the turbolift, nodding at the personnel on the bridge with a slight smile. As she moved into the ready room she noticed she was not the first to arrive, but, gladly, not the last. She stepped to the side towards the tall officer in the tactical uniform. As they waited she leaned a bit closer to the man and whispered, "Kell Asaa, CMO."
He paused a moment, looking to Kell. Tilting his head a moment, and just felt he knew 'what' she was. Rick could be wrong though. So he wasn't going to mention it. "Rick Gibbs, Doctor. Chief Tactical, Security. A pleasure."
Kell's eyebrows climbed a bit, but then she thought, 'Well, it is a senior staff meeting.'
"Pleased to meet you as well." She said, still speaking quietly so as not to disturb the CO and XO. "So you're the one responsible to keep me safe and sound so I can make sure everyone else stays healthy eh? Good to know."
"Been here long?" After she said it, she wondered if he would think she was asking how long he'd been in the room, or if he would know she was asking about the ship...
"Yes," Rick nodded. "I have been here for a good while actually." Giving a glance back out then to Kell. "Typically that's my job, indeed." A finger lifted and motioned a circled around her form, "If I'm right, is this the form you usually keep?"
Kell's eyebrow outdid themselves compared to earlier, though quickly dropping back in place. The chief of security would have enough access to know some of her secrets. She nodded. "It is the one I'm most comfortable with, it's all that most everyone knows."
Rick actually didn't check her records, he had no reason to. Didn't even know she was on board in fact. So it would have to go with who, or more importantly what he was as well. "I see. Nothing wrong with that."
She smiled, apparently satisfied with that answer.
Freya has been in her office going over the latest crew arrival personnel files, it was always a busy time arranging when arranging psych evaluations. Hearing the call to attend she put away her PADDs and headed for the bridge. Stepping into the turbolift it didn’t take long before she was stepping out again onto the bridge.
Heading to the Ready Room Freya offered a polite smile, and nod to those already present.
Kell looked over at the latest arrival, actually recognizing someone for once. She hadn’t had but the briefest chance to familiarize herself with personnel thus far, so she’d started with Medical, intending to work outward from there.
Waving, she motioned the redhead over to where she was quietly chatting with Mr Tactical. “Hi. I’m Kell… Asaa. The new CMO. I’m sure you already know Commander Gibbs. We’ll have to meet up after the briefing. I’d have come to see you already but I literally just came on board a short while ago.”
Freya smiled warmly. “It’s nice to meet you Kell, I’m Freya Ross Chief Counsellor.” She nodded to Rick. “Nice to see you again Commander.”
"And to see you again, Freya." Rick gave her a warm and polite smile.
Karadis entered the room and walked up to where Finchley and Ghost were "Sirs" she said, nodding to both.
"Karadis" Finchley replied "What is it?"
Karadis bent down and whispered in his ear then stood up again.
"You're certain of this?" Finchley asked, and Karadis nodded her affirmation. He nodded his acceptance and then looked at those who had assembled.
"If I can have your attention please" he began "Ordinarily, we would have a meeting in the Conference Room, however, I brought the briefing here for a good reason. I'll come to that in a minute, but I'd like you to think about what I'm going to say now. I brought you all in here because I'd like it to be a metaphor of how I see us all working in the coming missions. In here, we all stand close together, yet we seek to retain our individuality, that is how I'd like us to act as a team. Some of us have been here a while, others have quite literally come onboard 'five minutes ago', but our working relationship will be a close one. I am duty bound to inform you that earlier today, I received confirmation that going forward, I shall be the Liberty's new Commanding Officer and Captain Shannon will be moving to Executive Officer and will retain her Captain's rank and privileges. Commander Griffith will remain as Second Officer."
He looked around the room, taking in each face as he did so "The briefing for the mission is this. A few months ago, whilst the ship was undergoing repairs and a refit after our previous mission, a bomb was planted here in this room. Captain Shannon was badly injured in the explosion and it's only thanks to the skills of the medical team who operated on her that she's here with us now. Our task...our mission, is to find out who it was who planted that bomb and why. One of the lines of inquiry we have is that it's the work of a Dominion cell operating here on DS9. It's come to light that one of the engineering contractors was a Cardassian, a Kellan R'nam. He consequently went to ground for a couple of months, however, Commander Karadis has now informed me that he's been spotted. We need to find him and question him to find out if he was involved in planting the bomb and also find out where he's been these last two months. The wider implications is that he could be linked to the Dominion. If he is, then he could be lead us to information on the possible rebuild of Dominion forces. I'll open it up at this point to any questions."
Rick was there for that bomb, not in the room obviously, but there. That wasn't pleasant. He didn't have a question, more of a suggestion. "A suggestion."
"That's where I remember the name." Ghost said softly.
Kell turned slightly to look at the Chief, but still assessing the XO. It had been some time since the incident, but she would find a time to follow up with Captain Shannon once she'd reviewed the data.
"What's your suggestion Commander?" Finchley asked, looking at his Chief of Security.
"It probably would be better if we work this as a plant, or two. Find out more information by infiltrating. If we just go straight at him like Starfleet it'll make it much harder to get anything." Rick commented.
As Gibb's suggestion was considered, Kell started to raise her hand, then dropped it as she stared at the XO, lost in thought.
Just then, the Second Officer entered the room, sliding through the doors before they could open fully. He had come from across the ship and he was out of breath. "My apologies for being late sirs, I was tied up in something." Griffith hated being late to meetings, but either way, he was here now.
"That's alright Commander, we can catch you up shortly" Finchley replied.
Turning to Gibbs he said "In answer to your suggestion Commander Gibbs, Karadis just informed me that R'nam was smuggled onboard, so he's not registered on any manifest. He's been watched for the last twelve hours, he's alone. By picking him up, we have the advantage of being able to 'question him' without the usual due process. We'll also be able to keep an eye on the area he's in, so if anyone comes there, they to can be apprehended. I want you to bring him in, Commanders Griffiths and Karadis will go with you."
"That makes it easier instead of possibly weeks to move or plant someone in." Rick liked that part at least. It shouldn't be to hard to get him brought in, in that case. Since we have the where, who, information. Theoretically, a quick in out extraction."
Freya looked towards Finchley. “If it’s alright with you Captain, I’d like to volunteer to be there for R’nam’s questioning once he’s brought onboard. I should be able to tell if he’s answering honestly or not.”
"Yes Counsellor, we'd appreciate you being there for his questioning" Finchley replied.
Looking at Kell he said "I'd like R'nam to have a check over before we begin questioning him, so I'd like you to be present as well Doctor."
Kell tamped down the sudden rush of adrenaline and moved her gaze from the XO to the CO and nodded. "Do we have any medical history on him? I'll make sure he's healthy... or not."
She continued after a pause, "And if he has any, uh, enhancements, that my equipment can detect."
Kell turned to Gibbs. "Anything in particular I need to look for or be aware of?"
Rick shook his head at Kell, "Not for the first part. Once we have him though, it'll just depend. Might be on something, or hostility. That'll certainly come into your field if he's on something. Find out, as you asked about medical history before we've apprehended him."
Kell's mind was already at work. "I'm on it!" She turned her forearm up and started tapping. Gibbs noticed she had a military-style PADD attached. "Where will you bring him?"
"I'm going to figure we'd probably get him to one of the higher level brig cells here on the ship once we have him or them, to start with." Rick answered.
She nodded. "Fine. I'd like to set up in there in advance if that's alright, so he won't see what we're doing. I can set up the scanners in the bunk or a wall portion that can be secured and access them remotely. He'll probably guess we're up to something by that point but why make it obvious eh?"
Kell then looked back over at Kerr. "Can you get me any more access to data in case there's something classified on him?" She realized there might be some advantages to being part of an intelligence mission. . .
Finchley gestured to Karadis and she bent down to listen to what he said. Standing up again she looked at Freya and said "Once the meetings finished Lieutenant Ross, come and see me to discuss this."
Freya nodded as she looked towards Finchley. “Yes Sir.”
"I want to be there. I can tell if he is lying or telling the truth" Ghost stated.
“Then he won’t stand a chance with two of us Captain” Freya smiled at Ghost.
Finchley stood up, it was time to draw the briefing to a close.
"Before we end this briefing, there's a reason I called the meeting here in the Ready Room and not the Conference Room. In here, we're all close together in a tighter space, and that's how I want us to be as a crew. I want us to work closely together, to help each other out. I wan us to be a tight fit unit, no stand outs, no cocky show offs, anyone who can't work with this will soon find they're out the door. Myself and Captain Shannon won't be looking on, we'll be in it up to our elbows helping."
He looked at each individual in turn "You're all here because you're needed, you're good at what you do and the key to it remaining like that is we all work together as a unit as I said. We all have our part to play, and it begins now. Commanders Griffith, Gibbs and Karadis, you'll target R'nam and bring him in, then you'll target the area you find him in and check to see if anyone goes there. If they do, they're to be apprehended and brought in as well. Lieutenant Asaa, set up what you need to in the cell R'nam's going t be in, try to fin out as much medical information as you can about him and report it to me. Lieutenant Ross, you'll be in on the questioning, I want you to ascertain if R'nam is trying to hide anything from us. In the meantime, Captain Shannon and I will be going over the reports and evidence of the bombing again. I want 'all' of those involved in this atrocious attempted murder found and brought to justice and maybe...just maybe...it'll lead to something else. You have your orders, dismissed."
