Mission:
Diplomatic Masquerade
Location: USS Liberty and Starbase 234
Timeline: Current
How long ago had it been since she left home, 24 hours, 36? So much had happened in such a short amount of time. And now after a solid 8 hours of sleep she was ready to move forward with her life. Granted a 48 hour respite on the station, now down to less than 40, there were things she wanted to see and do on her itinerary. There was also the ship she had yet to familiarize herself with as she had not yet even begun to settle in when the jailbreak happened.
The jailbreak. Cody. He was the all consumer of her mind. She wouldn't have even gotten the rest that she did had she not ask for a little something extra when she went for her entrance physical with the good Doctor. They did love to poke and prod to make sure you were you and you that was you was in tip top shape for a job sitting at a computer terminal, at least since the Dominion War and the changelings became a thing.
She eyed the chaps, still laying in a heap in the corner. She hadn’t quite decided the best way to dispose of them yet. Phaser disintegration was too quick, not very satisfying. No, they needed a good old fashioned burning by torch, as though possessed by a demonic spirit. But fire to burn a buttless pair of chaps was difficult to come by on a starship in space. For now, they would have to reside in the darkest corner of her room as a reminder of a trust broken.
She fluffed and scrunched her hair to achieve maximum volume, suited up in her new gold and black uniform, adorned with the right pips and a recovered biometric commbadge, shiny boots and all. One look in the mirror reminded her that she was strong, capable and ready to take on the universe that lay just beyond the doors to her cabin. She nodded her own approval, turned on her heels and walked right into said doors, which were slow to respond partially because she had forgotten she had locked them.
That resolved, she made her way off the ship and onto the station for a day out, exploring and discovering. She took in the sights of a small artificial park, watched the children play. She visited the food stalls where she tried a local cuisine that thankfully wasn’t moving, bit spicy but otherwise tolerable. Last but not least she perused the shops, settling herself into a comfortable atmosphere within an old fashioned book store.
It was the smell that drew her in. It was the silence which kept her there. She found a good book with a leather bound cover, and a comfortable spot in the corner where she curled up and delved right in. Hours passed and no one bothered her, bothered to check on her, nothing. She was alone and content. The only thing missing was the soothing background hum of a computer terminal.
As she finished the book, she looked up and realized many of the shops were closing for the day. She stood, paid for her book with credits and added a tip for the quiet comfort and headed back to the ship. The day had been calming. It acted as a reset for the events of the past few days. She was now renewed and ready to begin again.
That is until she returned to her quarters where a pair of chaps mocked her. She eyed them upon entry. Tossed her book upon her bed and sat at her computer terminal and contemplated what needed to happen next. After too much thought on the subject she activated the system and called up the registry before sending a message to the counselors office. “To whom it may concern, I wish to schedule an appointment at your earliest available time slot tomorrow. Please respond so that I may add you to my calendar, thank you.” and she signed her name and title at the bottom in an effort to be as formal as possible.
Tomorrow was not only going to be another day, but a new leaf, she decided as she moved to her bed once more and began re-reading her new book.
