Mission: Welcome Aboard!
Location: USS Liberty, Sickbay

:ON:

Kolen stepped into the Liberty’s sickbay and surveyed his department proudly. It came stocked with all the latest scanners, equipment and gadgets that would make any Chief Medical Officer in the fleet turn green with envy.

Five biobeds lined the wall to his right, and ahead of him on the far end of the room was the surgical area. And finally to the left of the room was his office space. An adjoining corridor led through to another room with another five biobeds, with options to convert this number to fifteen with very little notice if required.

Kolen moved into the middle of the quiet room and looked around slowly. Without much warning, the EMH programme activated, startling Kolen. “Please state the nature of the medical emergency.” The holographic doctor asked politely.

“I’m afraid you’ve been triggered by accident.” Kolen raised his hands in apology, “I’m doctor Xatoo Kolen, the Liberty’s new Chief Medical Officer.”

The holographic physician sighed audibly and raised an eyebrow, “I don’t suppose you’ll be needing me anytime soon in that case?” He didn’t even try to hide his displeasure.

“I don’t know, I certainly hope not. I mean, you’d only be activated if I was incapacitated for some reason I suppose.” Kolen tried to explain.

The EMH shook his head disbelievingly. “Well thank you very much, Chief Medical Officer. Now would you kindly deactivate my programme please if I am not needed.”

Kolen was more than happy to oblige, “Computer, deactivate EMH programme.”

Kolen could have sworn the EMH had given him a filthy look as it deactivated, but he couldn’t have been certain. He was tired after his journey to the Liberty, and it was getting late. Taking one last look around the open space, he smiled. “I’ll be back in the morning.”
