Now she was settled in Aurora needed to catch up on what she’d missed, requesting a catch up briefing from the Captain she now sat at the conference table in the briefing room PADD at the ready to take notes.

The Captain was running late, as always despite her best efforts to keep her schedule running on track. She strode purposefully towards the conference room where she knew the new ships counsellor had been waiting a good 15 minutes already.

" I'm so sorry" She apologized the instant she stepped through the door, heading over to the seat opposite the half vulcan and slipping into it.

"There's no need to apologise Captain" Aurora smiled warmly. "You're a busy person, you have a whole ship in need of your attention. We could have rescheduled if this wasn't convenient."

" No no, we're good" Rhenora replied, turning her attention to the matter at hand. " I take it you're all settled? Was there any issues with the change of staff or the handover?" She asked, referring to the somewhat delicate situation where Starfleet had backfilled Savar's role without him knowing.

"No issues at all Ma'am, my office is ready now and I intend to drop Savar's things to him as soon as I can." She offered a smile.

" That's great to hear, I'm glad you've settled in so quickly" Kaylen replied, hoping that somewhere in there Savar's attempts to get said Captain to relax and reduce her coffee intake were lost in the handover.

" I just wanted to catch you up on where we are at with the current mission as I'm sure your skills will be required" Rhenora started, switching topics to the matter at hand.

Aurora nodded and smiled. “I’m eager to get involved Captain.”

"That's fantastic" The Captain started, rising and bringing up a starchart on one side of the screen and a dossier on the other. " Welcome to Orias III, and our main reason for being here - meeting Gul Maccet" She began, referring to the figure on the screen in the dossier.

At the mention of the Gul’s name Aurora had sensed a change in emotion from Rhenora. She looked at her CO curiously. “Do you know Gul Macet Captain?”

"We have had two altercations in the past. One of which I only became aware of recently. I killed his brother during a battle on Bajor many years ago, and more recently I robbed him of his pride and sent him to prison for raising a federation colony. Suffice it to say I have a gut feeling he may be bearing a grudge" The Bajoran explained, keeping her tone as even as possible. "To date though he has been nothing but cordial in our current meetings. Perhaps he has changed"

“Perhaps” Aurora nodded. “Or he’s simply been biding his time and planning his revenge. Which hopefully he hasn’t.”

" We have no way of knowing either way" Rhenora replied Saget, casting her eyes down to the man in the dossier. He still made her guts churn just by his very image." The delegation are on their way here to negotations regarding a distress call received from the planet below."

“I take it the distress call is from a non Cardassian’s source?” Aurora looked at Rhenora curiously.

" We have made that assumption. We haven't been able to locate any power sources nor make contact with whoever is down there. What we do know is the Cardassians were beginning to mine this planet, it was only the distress call that halted their progress." The Captain explained, bringing up a section of the planet. "We think the call originated from this region in the north"

“Could this distress call be coming from underground? Maybe a cave system?” She looked at the section being shown. “Mining would destabilise an underground facility.”

"That is also our assumption, the recent away team found signs of humanoid occupation but were unable to locate them, given the arid nature of the planet. It all of course could be a ruse and planted evidence but we must assume there is a population there until we can prove otherwise" the Captain brought up the images of the eating utensils the away team had found. "This is what the team found."

“Very interesting” Aurora nodded. “May I ask did you have a Betazoid on the away team? I’m just thinking that what a tricorder might miss, a Betazoid might be able to detect. Empathic senses can’t be blocked by rock unless it’s very deep and very thick, but since I can sense a surface population from the ship I’d say it would be possible to sense an underground population from the surface.”

"I hadn't thought about it from that perspective to be honest" Rhenora admitted, tilting her head to the side slightly as she considered the option "if the opportunity presents itself I think that would be very beneficial" she rubbed her chin in thought.

Aurora nodded. “I’d like to offer my assistance to the Chief diplomatic Officer as well, being a Counsellor I’m used to advising on such things so I might prove useful there as well.” She smiled warmly.

"I'd appreciate that. Whilst I would like to hope the Cardassians are being trustworthy in their reasons for being here, my gut tells me otherwise. We're gonna need all the help we can get" There was a knowing grin that crossed the Captain's face.

Aurora nodded. “I’ll do what I can Captain. If there’s nothing more I’ll let you go and get on with your work. I will need to organise Psych evaluations as well for those Savar hasn’t already seen, but that can wait until after our mission is done.”

"Thank you for your assistance Counsellor. I have a feeling we will be working together very closely over this next mission." The Captain finished, raising from her chair and picking up the padd before her. She had a feeling that Aurora was going to be a great asset to the Liberty.
