[Lt. Kla'ren's Quarters, USS Varley]
Lieutenant Kla'ren was in his quarters on the Varley. He had spent 9 years aboard that ship, which were soon coming to a close, as he was transferring to the USS Liberty, a Sovereign class, which was definitely an upgrade, to say the least. Well, at least for an engineer. As he was packing his bag, he looked out the window into the vast vacuum that was known as deep space. As he had served on the Varley for nearly a decade, he figured that they were going about warp 8, and they were still probably about 8 hours out of DS9. Then, he heard his alarm go off. which led to him to realize that it was his last shift. He threw his duffel bag on his bed to finish packing later, and he exited his quarters to head to engineering.
[Main Engineering, USS Varley]
He walked into Main Engineering, to find that everything was running smoothly. His first course of action was to walk over to his Assistant Chief Engineer, who would soon be promoted to Chief Engineer.
"Rynn, how's everything coming along?", asked the Chief Engineer.
"Good, the warp core is working fine, all systems are stable, and we should be arriving at DS9 in about 7 and a half hours.
"Stealing my job, eh?" ,joked the Andorian.
"Totally, now I just need to beat your to captaincy, sir" ,retorted Lieutenant Upland.
Thriss chuckled. "Good luck with that. But all jokes aside, I'm proud of you. No one deserves this promotion more than you."
"Thank you, and if I don't see you at all on DS9, good luck", Rynn responded.
"Oh, one more thing, tell that boyfriend of yours not to screw up!", said the Lieutenant.
She turned and looked at Thriss dead in the eye, and said, "at least I have a chance!".
As he watched his assistant, and his best friend walk out of engineering, he knew that he would miss her, but he needed a change in his career. Anyways, it was time for him start his shift.
[Lt. Kla'ren's Quarters, USS Varley]
After his shift, he went back to his quarters, to resume packing. He recollected his time on the Varley, and knew he would miss the ship, but it was time for a knew start. Soon after he finished packing, his combadge went off.
=^= Bridge to Lieutenant Kla'ren, we are approaching Deep Space Nine=^=
He tapped his combadge. =^= Acknowledged =^=
He then left his quarters as they were docking and he made his way to the bridge, to say his final goodbyes.
[Captains Ready Room, USS Varley]
The turbolift doors slid open as Thriss walked onto the bridge. He noticed Commander Garret getting up from the Command Chair.
"Lieutenant Kla'ren" ,said the Varley's XO. "I heard your transferring?"
"Yes sir, I am." There was a small pause for a moment. "It was an honor to serve under you and Captain Hunters."
"The honor was ours", replied the Commander. "The Captain is in his ready room, and good luck on your new assignment Lieutenant."
"Thank you commander", said the Andorian as he pressed the door chime to the ready room.
"Come in please", said the Captain.
Thriss walked into the ready room. "Permission to disembark sir?", asked the Lieutenant.
"Granted. So, the Liberty as your new assignment, think a Galaxy class is too old for you now?", the Captain joked.
The Andorian chuckled. "No sir, just needed a change in my career."
"So, Lieutenant Upland is replacing you here?"
"Yes sir, she is. In fact I have full confidence that she will do as good of a job as I did, if not better. No one deserves the position more than her", replied Kla'ren.
"You know, the ship may not be the same without you, Thriss"
"I know, but it was an honor serving with you sir."
"Please, the honor was mine, and godspeed Lieutenant"
After he said his final goodbyes, Thriss went to his quarters to grab his duffle bag, and then onto the transporter room. Once there he stepped on the transporter pad.
"Energize"
A second later, he disappeared into a blue shimmer.
[Quarks Bar, DS9]
After a few days of shore leave on Deep Space Nine, Lieutenant Kla'ren walked into Quarks bar, hoping to get a simple drink. However, not everything goes accordingly to plan. The Andorian took a seat at the bar waiting to be served, which took a while since it was pretty full. Eventually, the bartender, who just so happened to be a Ferengi, slid over to Thriss.
"And what can I get for the Andorian?", asked the Ferengi.
"You have coffee?", asked the Lieutenant.
"Yes, my fine sir", replied the bartender. "That will be 15 bars of gold pressed latinum."
"Wait a minute, you sold coffee to a Klingon for half that price earlier, and the price on the menu is much less than what the Klingons payed." Then it dawned on him. There are only a few Ferengi who reside on DS9, and the price was too much, which only meant two things: He was in the process of being scammed by a Ferengi, but not just any Ferengi. Quark, the owner of the bar. He had heard that name on his previous visits to the station, though he never actually met him until now. To make matters worse, Quark had scammed those Klingons earlier. Well, worse for Quark anyway.
"Wait a minute, your scamming me aren't you, Quark?" questioned the Andorian.
"How do you know my name?"
"Oh I don't know..... it totally does not say it on the sign of your bar, and I have heard stories about you."
"Me, what, noooo. I would never scam anyone."
"Sure. I'll tell you what Quark, you give those Klingons their latinum back, and you can keep those overpaid "funds"."
"But I don't like Klingons", whined the Ferengi.
"Fine have it your way, I guess I'll just tell them that you scammed them, and they will kick your sorry a-", before Kla'ren could finish, he was interupted by the chirp of his combadge.
=^= Ops to Lieutenant Kla'ren, the USS Liberty has arrived to pick you up =^=
The Andorian tapped his combadge =^= On my way =^=
Kla'ren realized that Quark was lucky to be "saved by the bell" as some Humans call it, but he didn't have time to mess around with a Ferengi anymore, so he paid Quarks price, and walked out of the bar.
"Close one" the Ferengi said to himself, and continued serving his customers.
