Mission: Welcome Aboard!
Location: Engineering / Cargo Bay

“Ever the gentleman… the logical gentleman” The Bajoran snorted as she secured the emergency command terminal and then the engineering console. There were a number of junior technicians who could mind the fort until they had liberated the rest of the ship - hopefully they wouldn’t need to do anything overly drastic.

“I do try Captain.” Savar replied to his cranky CO as they made ready to go to the cargo bay and liberate the crew there as well as subdue the Orions holding them. “We should hurry captain before the remaining Orions get suspicious.”

“ Indeed” Rhenora couldn’t help but begin picking to pick up the Vulcan’s euphemisms and intonation. “ From what I saw on the internal sensors, there were two in the cargo holding a large number of our crew. I couldn’t get a reading on any weapons or the like though, they must be doing something to keep the crew contained otherwise I’m sure they would have liberated themselves by now” she picked up the pace to an easy jog, stopping by a weapons locker and grabbing two phaser rifles. This time she would be doing things the easy way, she was getting too old for scuffles, having enough bruises already to last her a week.

“A most logical assessment Captain. Perhaps they have erected a temporary forcefield in which to hold the crew behind.” Savar proposed. He fell into step as Rhenora slipped into a jog. Only to stop at a weapons locker to pick up two phaser rifles. He checked the setting to make sure it was set to stun. “Ready when you are Captain.” He announced.

The corridors were eerily deserted, for a ship this size they would normally be bustling with activity. The stillness was almost unnerving, with the engines offline and the crew detained it was almost as though the heart of the Liberty had stopped beating.

Within fairly short order they pulled up outside Cargo Bay 1, the largest of the ship's container stores and the most logical place to hole up a large number of people. Without her tricorder or internal sensors they had no idea as to where the Orions would be and what weapons they had available to them. The last thing the Captain wanted was a firefight in which her own crew got caught in the middle.

Standing outside Cargo Bay 1, Savar looked at the Captain. “Have you a plan Captain?” He did not relish the idea of rushing in without at least some idea of what was waiting for them. He waited to hear what the Captain had in mind.

“To be honest, not really. We have very limited information to work with. We could either go in with a wide beam stun and sort it out later, or create a small diversion and then bust in and target the Orions.” Rhenora worked through the several options, none of which were overly appealing but all would get the job done.

“Yes. That is true Captain. Along the idea of a diversion, I have a thought. What if we just bang on the cargo bay doors? When the Orions ask who it is, give no reply. Force them to open the door. When they do, we subdue them.” Savar suggested.

“Knock knock, who’s there?” There was an iota of sarcasm. It was simple, but it could work.

“Yes, exactly Captain. I have found that curiosity is hard to ignore among many species including Vulcans. I suspect the Orions are no different.” Savar replied ignoring Rhenora’s sarcasm.

“ Interesting” Rhenora mused, double checking the setting on her weapon was on heavy stun, she wasn’t going to take any chances with this one.

Savar moved to the front and began pounding on the door in a frantic manner. It brought forth a series of questions from the Orions as to who it was and what was going on. All which were pointedly ignored. They could hear footsteps on the inside coming towards the door. “Be ready Captain.” he advised as he took a step back and out of her line of fire as the door began to slide open.

Rhenora did the same - stepping back against the wall so any errant shots didn’t hit her, They held the advantage and the crew would hopefully take advantage. The distinct buzzing of an energy field could be heard as the doors opened. So there was a forcefield in play.

Tyroh Vantic had been making his way from the main shuttlebay, where he’d left Ensign Cavanaugh with instructions, to carbo bay #1 where they’d discovered a pair of Orion pirates were situated. Tyroh and Cavanaugh had earlier made their way to the shuttlebay to get weapons and to use one of the shuttles’ systems to track pirate and crew movement on the ship. The security chief had been intent on keeping their own movements secret so he and Zinzeria had done some finageling of the internal sensors to keep their shuttle scans from being noticed.

Shortly after, the pair had transported from the shuttle to Deck 11 to dispatch the pirates Ensign Cavanaugh had told him about earlier. When they returned to the shuttlebay, further scans showed that the Captain and Second Officer had been busy doing their own bit of disruption. It was then that Tyroh had decided to join up with the pair, instructing Cavanaugh to remain behind and transport the group out if the security officer signalled them to do so.

He quietly moved into the corridor, phaser rifle in hands, to a position where he could see the Captain and she could see him. Tyroh nonchalantly signalled his commanding officer, indicating he was placing himself in a position to cover them all.

Rhenora looked at the new Security Chief, not the best way to meet the new crew but hey - beggars couldn’t be choosers. She signalled back, signalling that the Orions would hopefully fall for the ole ‘knock on the door’ trick. A pair of weapons emerged through the open door first.

Savar didn’t turn his head as the Captain acknowledged someone else in the corridor. His attention was fixated on the door and the weapons beginning to poke through the opening as the door opened.

Rhenora’s finger was on the firing mechanism, waiting patiently for the Orion to step through the door completely before firing. She didn’t want to risk any of her crew being caught in the crossfire. Patience was a virtue sometimes.

Like Rhenora, Savar waited for the Orion to come through the door much like a cat waiting for a mouse to poke its head out of a hole. Vulcans were known for their patience

The weapon was followed by the arm of an Orion, a junior crewman pressed against the body of said Orion as a shield. They’d suspected a ploy to draw them out. Rhenora glanced towards Tyroh and Savar. Her fingers lingered over the firing mechanism, they’d have to wait until the Orion was fully in the corridor so the crewman wasn’t hurt.

Savar raised his weapon, centering the sight on the Orion’s forehead. “Lower your weapon. You cannot escape.”

Rhenora lowered hers as the Orion’s attention shifted, moving forward to wrench the hapless crewman from harm’s way.

As Rhenora moved to grab the crewman, Savar fired. The beam struck Orion squarely and threw him back into the cargo bay.
