Family Planning - Stage Two
Posted on Fri Jan 22nd, 2021 @ 8:25pm by Lieutenant Anna S. Thesia M.D. & Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen & Lieutenant Aurora Vali
Mission:
Healing of Minds
Location: Sickbay
With the Bajoran emergency over, Anna was bummed that she had not, in fact, had any time to visit Bajor with either Jessica or Bonnie, imagining that spending time with both of them in a natural environment would have been fun, though suspecting Jessica would have been more relaxed than Bonnie, but that was probably just a general state of affairs.
But at least she had some progress to share with Savar and Aurora, and had asked both of them to meet her in her office while they were off-shift, so as not to interfere with their schedules. Anna had prepared tea and some light snacks, mostly sweet baked goods.
Having received Anna’s call Aurora headed straight to Sickbay at the end of her shift, she was really hoping that there was news from Starfleet regarding their want to have a child via implantation. Walking into Sickbay she was a bag of nerves as she greeted Anna. “Hi Anna.”
"Hey", Anna said, smiling and pointing at the food. "Please, help yourself. Are you feeling better?" Aurora seemed to be going through some pretty amazing bad luck lately. It was worse than Bonnie's, whose mishaps were at least funny and non life-threatening.
“Yes, thank you” Aurora smiled. “The whole radiation incident was my fault, I didn’t check my badge. It was pretty nerve wracking so I’m glad it’s over and done with.”
"Well, in normal cases of radiation exposure, we don't actually beam the source of the radiation onboard with us, do we?" Anna asked. "The exposed are harmless to others, if they're not also contaminated."
Aurora nodded. “Unfortunately for me I had contact with most of them whilst helping with triaging as they arrived.”
Savar had received the message from the CMO that she wanted to see him and Aurora after their shifts ended. When his shift ended, he took the turbo lift to Sickbay and walked into Anna's office. He wasn't surprised to see Aurora already there * Most likely ran from her office* He thought to himself.
"Hello Aurora." He greeted his wife before turning to Anna, "You wish to see me Doctor?"
Aurora smiled as she greeted her husband before looking at Anna, hoping they were about to get some good news.
Anna handed them PADDs. "Yes. Despite how things did not exactly go to plan lately, I had some time during our trip here from Vulcan to prepare a few options to submit to the ethics board. I summarised them in this file, you'll see the different drawbacks and advantages of individual solutions, and in all cases I can guarantee a genetically healthy child. There will be differences in telepathic abilities between different choices, but those drawbacks in power will be outweighed by better mental stability for everyone who doesn't have to deal with telepathy from an early age. I understand early onset telepathy, at least in Betazoids, is bad, and I do not know how well a Vulcan side will assist in combating the ill effects."
Aurora nodded. “If it’s a choice between stability and having a child with unstable abilities I’d rather be safe. It’s difficult enough for me at times, I wouldn’t want a child having to cope with out of control abilities.” She looked at Savar.
"I concur with Aurora. Our child's mental stability is of paramount concern. That they are able to function without problems or drawbacks is of the highest priority." Savar replied.
"You'll find there are no combinations completely without drawbacks", Anna said. "However, the ones with fewer special abilities, for lack of a better term, are also the safer choices, and likelier to be approved by the ethics commission." She smirked. "I'm just saying, I'm not even sure they'd have approved of me. Those laws can be very... inflexible."
Aurora looked at Savar then at Anna. “As long as you can guarantee me a healthy child, that’s all I’m worried about. If he or she doesn’t have abilities then I can live with that.”
"I do not believe it is asking too much to have a normal, healthy child. So again I concur with Aurora." Savar told the CMO.
"That I can do", Anna said. "And I'm confident the ethics commission will approve. I'll send the request now." She tapped a few buttons on her console. "There, now we wait."
Aurora looked at Savar, she had a feeling of excitement yet at the same time she was afraid. Would having a child so soon unbalance their relationship? She hoped not. “Well in that case I think I’ll head home and lie down for a little while.” She offered a smile.
"Probably not a bad idea", Anna agreed. "It's been a long day for all of us."
Aurora offered a smile. “Just getting over the radiation exposure that’s all. Sarah did say to rest, but you know me I’m always on the go.” She offered another smile. “I definitely need some sleep.”
Anna grinned at Savar. "Try to find us emergencies which don't interfere with shore leave next time?"
"Your suggestion is duly noted Doctor. I shall endeavor to do my best to abide by it." Savar replied dryly. "However Aurora for now, you need to abide by the doctor's orders and rest."
Aurora nodded. “Of course” She smiled and nodded. “I’ll see you later.” With that she nodded to Anna and headed on her way.
