Mission:
*CD*
Location: USS Liberty
Timeline: Before the Jungle happened
Meanwhile, Sapphire had cleared away her furniture and piled most of it up in the corner, with only the sofa remaining. She was about to say something funny about what had taken Bonnie so long when she saw her being pushed out in her... surprisingly well-done attire. No wonder it had taken this long, and that she’d needed help. “Wow, you look amazing!”
Stumbling forward, rudely and bashfully Bonnie responded by pushing a lock of hair from in front of her eyes, “Thanks. Just wait until we dance.” She raised her brows in a knowing manner. Then turned around and gave Anna a glaring look. When she turned back to Sapphire she noticed the room was set up and ready, a space big enough for a wardance in the center. “You’ve been busy.”
“You’ve taken a long time in there”, Sapphire smiled. “But it was worth the wait. You’re gorgeous.” Sapphire had to admit, however clumsy she may be with some things, she got great results when she put her mind to work. “I am duly impressed.”
Bonnie blushed, "Thanks. May I borrow your kite shield and your axe? They are instrumental in my dance."
Sapphire took the shield and axe off the wall. “But be carefull, that axe is sharp”, she said, handing it over to her before presenting the shield so Bonnie could strap it onto her arm.
Axe in one hand, shield in another, she motioned for Anna to fasten the straps of the shield. Once done she stood at regal attention in the center of the room, and called to the computer “Computer, play audio file Bonnie going to war.” To which the computer acknowledged with a chirp.
The audio system in Sapphire’s quarters began a steady drum beat, like her own heart beating slightly faster than normal. She held her head low, her eyes closed until the beat paused briefly. That was her entrance cue.
She smacked the axe against the front of the shield, and screamed out loud as if her enemy were right in front of her. The volume of her scream echoing off the walls in harmonious reverbnation to the sound of the drums. Eyes now open, she held the focus of the dance.
Next came the leg motions. She raised her right leg in an arc, then planted it firmly on the floor again, followed by the left as she slowly moved around a focal point. Continuing to move, she brought the axe up and spun it in a circle like a high school girl would a baton. Spin complete she brought it around in a wide arc, pointed it at Sapphire and screamed again, bringing her teeth to bare.
As the drums ended, she relaxed her posture, shook her tooshie playfully and smiled. “So, what did you think?”
Sapphire clapped her hands enthusiastically. “Excellent performance, I love it.” She was grinning from ear to ear. “You’re something fierce, scarousing.”
Anna was inclined to agree. “You’ve got much more energy than I gave you credit for”, she said. “It’s not the kind of dance I’m used to but you certainly have talent. I’ll remember that next time there’s a talent show on in the lounge.”
Bonnie, sat the axe down on the table carefully and downed another glass of the beverage in her cup. She looked at Sapphire and asked, “Would you like to do it with me now?”
“Girls, I’m going to excuse myself”, Anna smirked. “It looks like you two could use some alone time.” Matchmaking success? Possibly.
Sapphire took Bonnie’s hand, saying, “I’d love that. So those patterns, are they persistent?”
Bonnie spun around slowly. “They are foot to shoulder and each one means something different to the Pictish people.” She looked at Anna, “You don’t have to leave. I was just going to show Sapphire how to do the dance.”
“No, you dance with her, I’ll see you soon, so you can tell me all about how the antennae play went tonight”, Anna teased.
Sapphire blushed a much deeper blue.
Bonnie blushed as well. Even as Anna walked out she turned to Sapphire. “She’s, um, she’s kidding right?”
“You don’t have to tell her anything”, Sapphire smiled. “And my lips are sealed, if that is what you prefer.” She put her arm around Bonnie’s shoulders, leaning in. “You should see yourself in a mirror.”
“I looked before I came out. It’s just a costume. The sonic shower will wash most of it away.” She stroked the fur of the fox upon her shoulders. “I might keep the fur head dress though.”
“You do look good in blue”, Sapphire said. “Even though I should probably feel like you’re encroaching on my territory.” She winked. “But I’m sure you didn’t mean it that way.”
“No. No harm intended. And now I”ve upheld my end of the bargain. Is there anything you’d like to know about the Pictish people? They’re very interesting. I’ve seen some of the stones they left behind and did a lot of research into their culture. I mean… if you’re interested.” She could feel Sapphire's eyes staring at her naked skin. Feeling nervous she held up her empty glass in front of her like the shield, which so happened was still attached to her arm.
Sapphire nodded. “I’d love for you to explain the meaning of those patterns to me”, she said, then helped Bonnie unstrap the shield before putting it back on the wall, coming back with the bottle. She had not obstructed the sofa, so she took Bonnie’s hand and moved in that direction. “Assuming they’re not just random patterns?”
Bonnie followed, happily engaged in a subject she was bursting to share. She pointed at the double disc which looked like a barbell, running across her belly. "This is said to symbolize a bountiful harvest. Mind you the Pict people were classified as both hunter gatherers and farmers."
She flipped around and lifted the fox tail, "And that one on my back, the Triquatra, stood for The Father, The Mother and the Son, which was later translated to symbolize love between their Gods and themselves.” She flopped down onto the couch facing Sapphire with a gleeful smile upon her face. So far everything had come off without a hitch. The only thing she had not done was show Sapphire how the steps went.
“I like the patterns on your boobs”, Sapphire smirked. “Those must have been fun to put on. I think Anna may have enjoyed herself a bit too much there.”
Blushing, Bonnie looked down at the patterns on her chest. She had almost forgotten she was still mostly naked. Between the tattoos and the war paint she felt like she was wearing clothing. "Um, we both did I think." Then she steered the conversation back to the Picts.
"I think you would have loved the Pictish people. They lived in the north where it's cold yet they fought in the nude. The mere sight of them was enough to instill fear in the hearts of the Romans." She leaned forward enthusiastically, "Did you know they are known as the only people the Romans couldn't conquer. At least on the British Isles." Between the alcohol and the spirit of sharing information Bonnie was struggling to contain her excitement.
“And that’s most unusual too”, Sapphire said. “I mean, how could someone without armour stand against someone with armour? Individually, it’s fairly easy. But in unit formations? This looks like attack pattern suicide to me. Always assuming equal standards of training, physical fitness and so on, on both sides.” But it was a similar question with the Klingons. Nobody had been able to put their finger on why Klingon ground forces were so fearsome, despite using weaponry that was clearly not the best suited for modern warfare. True, they also used disruptors, but on paper, their tactics and other weapons appeared weak. Yet, they often succeeded.
"Right! Initially their attacks failed in an open battle situation but then they turned to guerilla tactics. They would hide in the trees and attack supply lines without warning." She was enacting her words with hand gestures. "Instead of a hammer they were like a thousand needles, methodically pinching the enemy until they bled." She took her finger tips and pressed them into Sapphire's chest, mimicking annoying pin pricks.
Sapphire laughed as she was getting poked. “They must have poked harder than that, though”, she teased. This was far from annoying. “If you’re trying to make me bleed, this isn’t the way.”
Bonnie laughed out loud, when she stopped she still held a smile. "I don't need to try and make you bleed silly. Hang out with me long enough and I'm sure we'll see what runs through those veins. " she sighed, a sudden uncomfortable feeling coming over her. She realized the temperature in the room, while chilly, was much warmer than Sapphire was used to. Her own nipples stood out like diamonds waiting to cut glass.
"I'm sorry. I just realized, you must be uncomfortable as hell. I don't mind if you make it colder in here." She looked around absentmindedly for where she left her clothes. "I can get dressed. I mean I have to meet my new boss in the morning anyway."
“I don’t mind if you stay here tonight”, Sapphire offered. “I can deal with the heat, I’ve been through worse. And, you see, some things are worth the sacrifice.”
Silence filled Bonnie's head for but a moment. She was smart enough to put two and two together. She, despite the fuzzy thinking brain, remembered what Anna had said. And now she was getting that vibe from Sapphire herself. Overthinker that she was, a hundred scenarios ran through her brain causing her to doubt herself as well as other things.
She wondered why her, what was special about her? Was she ready for a commitment or even a one night stand if things didn't go as planned? She wondered how coupling with an Andorian actually worked? What would her papa have to say? Was there any regulations against pairings of this nature? Could she maintain professionalism after? Before she realized what was happening she had been staring off into the reflection in space when a voice brought her back.
“What do you say?” Sapphire asked. “I think you’ll be much more fun when you haven’t had too much ale and can’t move, right?”
"Fun? I'm fun. I mean I can be fun, when I want to. I'd like to think I'm a fun person to be around drunk or not. And what do you mean can't move right?" She was growing defensive and slightly agitated. She questioned herself as to why she was being so irrational and all she could come up with was that she was a Gemini.
“You passed out last night”, Sapphire smirked. “That’s what I mean. I think tonight is much better.” It was her turn to poke Bonnie. “Why are you getting upset? I’m not trying to be mean or anything.”
Bonnie didn't know why she had gotten upset. Bonnie didn't know a lot of things when it came down to personal interactions with people. And while she had known Sapphire all of twoish days, she barely knew her personally and was still intimidated by her. Realizing her own inadequacies and insecurities were getting in the way, Bonnie chose to run.
"I am sorry. I would love to have a sleepover. Maybe even mess around a bit," she looked down and away, shame in her eyes. "But I really think I should get back to my cabin." She looked back at Sapphire. "Don't get me wrong, you're really lovely, you are, but I, I don't know, my trust is at an all time low for getting hurt and maybe, maybe we could get to know each other, you know, as friends first."
“Oh, you’re looking for something serious, long-term, with build-up?” Sapphire asked. Maybe she shouldn’t have been fooling around like this. But how could she have resisted the temptation?
“Um, I don’t really know that I am looking for anything really. I do know the only way to rebuild trust in any sort of relationship is through time. And I’ve only known you two or three days.” She looked down at her tattoos . She had gotten all dressed up and was looking mighty fierce. Her head was a buzz of fun and alcohol.
“But, it would be a shame to waste all of this.” She gestured at herself and her body, pointing specifically at her markings and the colorings. “And I do look pretty good, right?” She asked, fishing for compliments and perhaps making a suggestive hint. She was wishy-washy and she knew it. She just didn’t know how to not be.
“You’re gorgeous”, Sapphire responded. “Next time there’s a costume party, at least you don’t have to worry about who’ll win the best costume prize.” She smirked. Sapphire was wondering what was going on in Bonnie’s mind. She’d seen her incompetent and then highly proficient, and then go from teasing to insecure. She could not figure her out.
Blushing, Bonnie looked at Sapphire with admiration. Her mind teetered on the edge of play or flee and she was looking for a push from one to the other. If she stayed she would break down a boundary she had not ventured beyond in many years. If she left, all of her work would be for naught knowing now that she had been a desired plaything. Her eyes stared for a brief moment and then she pushed.
She leaned forward suddenly and planted a kiss upon Sapphire's lips. It was sweet, albeit cold to the touch. The sensation lasted for only a moment before she pulled back and said, "Thanks. I think you're gorgeous also." Then she abruptly stood and started to walk back towards the bedroom.
Startled, Sapphire stood and followed. Bonnie had said one thing, then done the other. She did not seem as decisive as she was used to from the more military-minded people she was usually with. But playfulness was good. Sapphire caught up with her quickly, on account of her longer strides, and wrapped her hands around Bonnie from behind. “You don’t really have to be anywhere until morning, do you?” she whispered.
Sapphire's hands were like cold popsicles upon her newly tattooed skin, instantly raising her goose-pimples to maximum levels, along with her already hard diamond cutters. She momentarily closed her eyes as the sensation washed over her body, before breathing out and replying. "Not really, no. Did… did you have something else in mind? A… uh… game perhaps?" She played coy despite the thoughts running through her head.
“Let’s not talk about games”, Sapphire said. “We can make sure you’ll learn how to properly shoot a phaser from your own hand tomorrow. Just know I’m really impressed by that bot you made.”
Her eyes lit up and she quickly turned around to say 'you really think so', but she managed to trip over her own two feet. As she fell backward she reached for Sapphire catching her arm. Instead of catching her though, Bonnie's momentum pulled Sapphire down on top of her, both landing with a thud upon the bedroom floor. "Ow, sorry."
Sapphire’s reflexes were just enough to get one hand under Bonnie’s head, and to catch most of her weight with the other. So at least there was no concussion. “Don’t apologize”, she said, kissing Bonnie on her lips, “for taking initiative.”
Bonnie's eyes darted back and forth as she attempted to read Sapphire's red pearls for information. They were hypnotic and she immediately disappeared in them as she made a choice. She wrapped her hand around the back of Sapphires head and pulled her in close, encouraging her to kiss again. As she pulled her fingers through that head of white hair she ran her finger gently and intentionally over one antenna, taking initiative once more.
