Fortuitous Meeting pt.2

Posted on Wed Sep 16th, 2020 @ 5:45am by Lieutenant Commander Tyroh Vantic & Lieutenant Commander Shylow Vitari & Ensign Zinzeria Cavanaugh

Mission: Welcome Aboard!
Location: Jeffries Tubes
Timeline: During and the events in "Stubborn Engines"

ON:

[USS Liberty]
[Jeffries Tube]

As the pair started making their way to the main shuttlebay, Tyroh laid out what it was that he had in mind.

"Firstly, we'll need a couple of weapons," he explained, crawling through the Jeffries tubes as swiftly as was allowed. He had no doubt Cavanaugh could keep up. "There's a security panel in the main shuttlebay that will have what we need. Secondly, we'll use the systems in one of the shuttles to help us track the pirates' location as well as that of our crew, though we'll need to bypass the Liberty's sensors so we don't get caught."

"I'd prefer a blade if we're getting weapons, but I passed the standard qualifications for phasers at the Academy. My hand-to-hand is superior to my targeting though." Their hand-to-hand had definitely improved after spending so much time at a predominantly Klingon base.

He looked back over his shoulder at the officer following him. "Are you good with computers?"

"I know my way around the basics, and I personally reprogrammed all of the linguistic databases and translation programs at my last posting, though I haven't had much time to start in on those of the Liberty." Their smile danced crookedly across their face.

"Maybe I can backdoor through the linguistics database to get into the main systems. It'll be harder to track us that way as well, because the database is currently a quagmire of loose code and half-finished projects."

"That sounds like a plan," Tyroh grunted in approval. One thing he'd carried over from his time with with the Angosian military was the necessity to remain unpredictable. It was something he was hoping to ingrain in his security team. Cavanaugh seemed to instinctively understand that.

"Once we have the location of our Deck 11 pirates narrowed down," he stated as he came to an access door, starting to unlock it so they could move on to the next section. "We'll beam in and take them out. Non-lethally. I don't have actual blades in our armoury but we do have stun batons and stun blades that will incapacitate most humanoids."

"I can work with a stun blade, as long as the weight is balanced." Zinzeria followed behind the officer, resealing the access doors as they passed them. Better if anyone trying to trail behind them had to take a minute or two to get through. Once more they really wished that they'd brought their d'k that on hand.

"Have you fought Orion's before, Sir? I have to say that they can be cold-blooded. Expect most of their weapons to be set to kill not stun, they're not much for taking prisoners except for..." Did they want to talk about the fact that their race was still proliferating slavery as a major output? Nah. Maybe leave that for now. They opened their mouth to say something else but were stopped by the fact that the Security Chief had ceased moving forward.

Tyroh pulled the access panel to the next Jeffries corridor and was shocked to see someone on the other side. He'd never seen this person before but they were a starfleet officer as well.

"And you are," Tyroh asked.

Vitari blinked. The panel she had been about to access rarely moved itself and for just a small moment she thought her preemptive karma and caught up with her, opening the way like the unfolding of a flowers petals, instead she found herself near nose to nose with something almost as unlikely, "Vitari," she replied automatically before her idle thoughts made the small leap, "Lieutenant Commander, intel," she waved a hand vaguely at nothing in particular, "I see our ships inner passages have become a freeway for us all. Last thing I was expecting was someone else, the ships sensors must be screwy - there was no one shown when I climbed in," she paused mid ramble before offering a gloved hand in traditional Terran form with a half embarrassed smile, "And you would be?"

"Tyroh Vantic. Chief of Security," the Angosian said, pointing a thumb in his direction. He then turned to Cavanaugh so they could introduce themselves as well.

Zinzeria waved cheerily from behind the Security Chief. "Ensign Zinzeria Cavanaugh, Linguistic Specialist! Pleased to meet you Sir, Ma'am... uh... Not the most auspicious first encounter but you can't help but acknowledge that it is awesome as all get out on the adventure scale."

The intelligence agent shook her head with a bemused smile, "Hard to disagree with you there, pirates on the high sea and secret meetings between fugitive strangers."

"The ship had taken a bit of damage, which might explain some of the sensor issues. That might be to our advantage, in the end," the last part Tyroh kind of mumbled to himself. He spoke up again. "We were headed to the shuttlebay to arm ourselves and then incapacitate some pirates on Deck 11. How about you?"

"Opposite end, I'm afraid," Vitari shrugged, pointing directly up, "Command deck to see if I can dislodge the two friends we picked up in there and make sure they haven't been getting up to anything untoward," she paused a moment as she weighed up how much she knew before adding, "The captain and XO are heading towards the cargo bay, a couple of hostiles there and a few a, hopefully, the last of the pirates, unless things have changed since I left. Might be worth trying to meet up with them and provide support if you can make it."

"Sounds great! Shuttlebay for weapons, pick off the last two pirates on Deck 11, and then on to the Cargo Bay to rescue the Captain and her Officer. We've got this team!" The Ensign grinned broadly, her nerves settling as there was now a clear path ahead of them.

"Weapons," Vitari murmured, "Well I can lend you this at least," she tossed a small device from a barely visible compartment near her waist to the enthusiastic ensign, "Only one shot at stun but gotta be better than nothing if you run into something unexpected- and keep it; I've got a few spares laying around, never know when it might come in handy down the line."

Zinzeria catches the device, still grinning. "Ma'am, you are just full of surprises. Come along, Chief, let's go get us some gear."

"I probably shouldn't delay much," Vitari sighed with a self mocking chuckle as she gestured towards a nearby ladder, "This crawl I volunteered for is a little longer than I really considered, and it may have been a little while since i spent my hours crawling through the roads less traveled - the Captain could likely use your assistance as well."

"Let us know if you end up needing any assistance up at the bridge," Tyroh stated, getting ready to move along with Cavanaugh. "Once we lock down our two pirates, we'll be ready to assist the Captain AND you, if necessary. We'll have one of the shuttles ready for any emergency beam in or beam out requirements you may have. Otherwise, good luck, Commander."

"Appreciated," Vitari nodded before she tossed a lazy salute to the others and took the first step on her path; the steady and endless task of climbing up the ship, her mind slipping to the task as she idly wished the security officer and ensign luck.
