Mission: Healing of Minds
Location: Ready Room

Captain Kaylen Rhenora looked up as her door chime sounded, wondering who would be wanting her attention whilst the majority of the crew were supposed to be on downtime. Several possibilities came to mind, all of which revolved around the attacks on two crewmembers by an unknown source.

"Come in" she called , and set aside the report she was reading so as to give whoever was coming in her full attention.

Anna came in, quickly introduced T'Pora and then summarised their findings and their hypothesis concerning the Stone of Gol, bringing the skipper up to speed. "This is why we believe the Liberty's sensors would be a good place to start to look for the artefact."

"I see" Rhenora said, taking in all the information as well as the recommendation of both T'Pora and Dr Thesia.

"I think we should bring Savar in on this" She commented, paging her XO to the ready room.

Savar received the page while on the bridge and after leaving the bridge in the capable hands of Lieutenant Compton, headed for the Captain's Ready Room. After buzzing the chime and receiving permission he did so, seeing Anna and Dr. T'Pora already there. "You wished to see me Captain?" He inquired.

"I did indeed Commander, Please come in" She gestured to a vacant chair and turned her attention back to Anna and T'Pora. "The Doctors have a very interesting theory that I would like to hear your thoughts on. T'Pora has reason to believe the Stone of Gol is behind the attacks on our crew, and that someone inexperienced in its use is operating it. Do you know anything about the Stone?" She started, sipping the ever present cup of coffee on her desk.

"Indeed. As I had already mentioned that fact to Dr. Thesia after I scanned Aurora." Savar stiffly. As for the Stone of Gol itself, The Stone of Gol was an ancient weapon conceived on Vulcan during the turbulent times before the Time of Awakening. It functioned as a psionic resonator which focused and amplified telepathic energy, specifically any violent thoughts and emotions many hold and then turned them back upon the person experiencing them." He finished and awaited a reply.

"So I believe we're in agreeance that this Stone of Gol has somehow gotten into the hands of another party" Kaylen sat back in her chair, considering the three sitting on the other side of the desk. "Did I hear correctly that it was supposed to be destroyed some time ago? Not that it makes a difference now - it appears to be very much around and being used against us."

"I believe that to be a logical assessment of the current situation Captain." Savar answered simply. "It was supposedly turned over to Vulcan security by officers of the USS Enterprise, NCC 1701-D, to be destroyed."

The Captain circled her finger around the rim of her coffee cup as she pondered this new information. "So not only was it not destroyed, but was kept intact and now presumably stolen. My question is this - do we alert the Vulcan authorities that we believe the Stone is back in circulation, or do we deal with this ourselves in case there is a bigger problem?" She asked honestly - laying her proverbial cards on the table.

"We do both Captain." Savar answered. "We tell the Vulcan authorities that we suspect the Stone of Gol is being used in these attacks and we have already started an investigation into the matter and the attacks. The Vulcan authorities can check to see if the Stone was indeed destroyed while we hunt for the attacker."

"Works for me" Kaylen started, drawing the coffee once again to her lips. "We still need a way to track his attacker. At present we can only see the aftermath. Is there any way we could detect this psionic resonance?"

"In theory we can track it when the holder first activates it Captain, however that would only give us scant moments to react." He looked over to T'Pora, "Do you know of a way we can track the Stone?"

"I do not." T'Pora said simply, showing no emotion what so ever. "I would surmise that the Liberty would have sensors that could detect the psionic waves with some additional calibration."

The Captain rolled this new information around her brain. Yes they could probably modify the sensors, they'd need a lower orbit, some time, and a security detail waiting on the transporter platform ready to move out at a moment's notice. It would be tricky - but it could be done.

"I'm surprised devices like these weren't weaponised against Dominion forces, they seem somewhat more effective than phasers in the hands of skilled operatives", Anna said. "Which also brings me to the question of how we can disarm the attacker."

"Good thing they weren't, could you imagine if they fell into enemy hands?" Rhenora shuddered at the mere thought of it. "As for disarming the attacker, the best we have is the element of surprise. He's untrained, and we can only assume he will be 100 percent focused on what he is doing."

"We could beam down a container of anaesthezine gas to wherever our sensors tell us he's hiding", Anna suggested. She thought like a civilian looking for an easy way out.

"Gas first, talk later?" Rhenora quipped, realising the statement for what it was. It was the less risky of their options, although they would loose their concrete evidence if there was more than one person in the vicinity.

"Anaesthezine has two distinct advantages", Anna said. "One, it's harmless, causing no long-term effects we'd have to worry about, so no collateral damage. Two, it's much faster and easier to set up and use than having to feed a security detail a lot of beans for two days."

Rhenora chuckled at the comment, Anna was definately on the mark.

"So if we detect the psionic wave, we beam in a canister of gas, give it a few minutes then beam down to ask the questions?" She clarified, never one to shirk away from taking on ideas from her crew.

"That's how I would do it. But then, I'm rubbish at fighting", Anna admitted. "I'd be out of my depth with phasers, but I understand anaesthetics."

" It would give us the advantage" Rhenora mused, finalising her decision. " So, here's how we are going to play it. Request permission for a lower orbit to commence our sensor scans, modify the sensors to detect this psionic wave, beam in a cannister of rapid acting gas, then follow it up with a security team."

She waited for each member of the team - along with T'Pora to nod in agreeance before putting their plan in motion.

"Anna, T'Pora, can you organise the gas in a suitable dispersal device? Savar, please oversea the sensor modifications. I'll contact the Vulcan Government and request a lower orbit and stand the security detail by on short notice." She finished as she rose from her chair. It was time to get things done.
